SAVE PROSPECT COTTAGE
Role: brand strategy and creative direction

Brief
Art Fund needed a striking brand concept for a public crowdfunding campaign to raise £3 million to save the artist and filmmaker Derek Jarman’s house Prospect Cottage in Dungeness, Kent. In order to reach this huge target they needed to reach new audiences from the film and gardening communities and with people that held the cottage and Jarman close to their hearts.
Process
The campaign needed a strong image of Derek Jarman and the cottage so I contacted two photographers who had known and worked with Jarman while he was living there, selecting a series of striking images from their archives to use for the campaign. Working with the in-house design team at Art Fund we created a unified set of eye-catching marketing materials that captured the spirit of protest including posters, postcards, digital and social assets.
I also collaborated with a number of artists including Jeremy Deller, Michael Craig-Martin, Tacita Dean and Issac Julien on the creation and production of a set of highly desirable artist rewards. As well as working with the costume designer Sandy Powell on the autograph suit she wore to the 2020 Oscars which was signed by over 200 celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Scarlett Johansson. Sandy also took a selection of the marketing materials to give out on the night, so I was always pleased to say that our design work made it to the Oscars!
